Kris Vallotton is the founder of Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry in Redding, California. He co-leads Bethel Church with Bill Johnson. He is the author of two other books, The Supernatural Ways of Royalty and Basic Training for Prophetic Ministry. Kris and Kathy have been married for thirty-one years, have four children and seven grandchildren.

Kris Vallotton -- A real-life Prophet to the abundant blessings of an Open Heavens' lifestyle

"Religion is what's left after Spirit has left the building."

I'm not sure if that's an exact quote from Bono, but it sums up what becomes of a church that has lost the heartbeat of a Living Christ and casts the works of the Father though His Son into the dustbin of history.

I love God despite being raised in a culture of science-based skepticism, but it was hard because I used to be bored silly in church. Church, not God, was irrelevant. That's before I caught the fire. Through grace, I stumbled across it quite by accident.

If you seek the exciting world of present day miracles that take place in the presence of passionate believers -- healing, deliverances, signs that make you wonder - then books, CD's, DVD's by pastors Bill Johnson and Kris Vallotton of the Bethel Church in Redding, CA, are a terrific gateway. Check out their podcasts.

Johnson and Vallotton are two stand-out voices that bring the `Wow' factor back into spiritual experience: Nothing but God can be at cause for the marvels they recount in story after story. They declare Christ is the healer and that faith belongs to any and all willing to step out in boldness and command infirmity to depart. Those who do are claiming their rightful inheritance to the Kingdom of Heaven as royal sons and daughters created in the likeness and image of God.

Johnson is a scion of a family of pastors; he's been church-mouse poor and is now sought as an internationally renowned speaker. In contrast, Vallotton suffered many adversities in his path to Christ, operated a gas station, then several auto parts stores. He tells what Christianity is like from the gritty side of life, and in person, he's quite funny.

One of Vallotton's stories I like best, told in Supernatural Ways of Royalty co-authored with Johnson, is how he and his wife prayed one night week for a year on the streets of a small, troubled town - rain, shine or snow - to completely change its character. He tells how the enemy departed unseen one dark evening with bloodcurdling screams from an abandoned field. During this period, his family adopted a teen left virtually homeless by addict parents. To me, these are powerful demonstrations of faith in action and answered prayer.

These two men, among other giants of faith, stand at the forefront of an emerging wave of Spirit-filled Christianity. Revivalism has occurred many times before, but this generation is working hard to see that the floodtide does not ebb, but changes the world. And indeed, it is becoming the fastest growing sector of believers around the globe.

Read anything, everything you can get your hands on that these guys write. Be inspired. Better still, find a Spirit-filled church and experience worship alive with His presence. Drink, soak, and rediscover your relationship with the Lord. Whether dry and thirsty in a church that no longer feeds your soul or burdened with a life of shame and failure, come. Come. Rejoice. Through Him ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE.

Ka-Boom!

This is one of the most extraordinary books I've ever read.

I like Kris Vallotton a lot: I've heard him preach on iBethel.tv and I've read his other books. I've given them as gifts. I like the way he writes.

But this book? It's another level altogether. The emphasis of the book really is LIFESTYLE. It suggests a transformation so profound: an inclination toward the supernatural -- an open stance toward signs and wonders -- as an everyday part of the normal Christian life. He doesn't do it as a cookbook ("Do this! Do that! You'll get a miracle..."), but as an attitude adjustment, a shift in awareness and expectation. And every shift that he suggests emerges out of scripture. Not just this verse or that taken out of context -- on the contrary! The book shows how a life saturated with God's miracles has been God's plan for His people all along.

It's a lovely book. It will build up your faith. It will heighten your expectation. It will show you possibilities. It'll rock your boat and blow up your cage. Ka-Boom!

Supernatural Lifestyle

Another great book by Mr. Vallotton. This book took me by storm! There is so much to learn about the supernatural. It mentions that not much takes place in the spirit realm without our taking some risks. It also brought to light that when we ask the Holy Spirit into our hearts that our body becomes home to two spirits - I'd never thought of it that way before. This book has great knowledge to share & teach!

Bravo! Brother Lucas hit it out of the park! Not a big fan of Christian books as my experience has been after reading I am left feeling overwhelmed and unable to get to the same "level" as the author may have intended. This is not that kind of book. This book seeps with the practical - and not only for Christian ministry but also for everyday living! In fact, I believe his intention is to get healthy at everyday living which can then lead to effective Christian ministry.

I think and hope this will be the first of many more books by the author.

Relevant and Thoughtful

This book is clear, concise, and full of alternative perspectives to the crowd, hack-it mentality. It also questions some basic assumptions about how we think of success and the means to it. Particularly valuable are Lucas' mathematical extrapolations that "prove" little, mundane, and personal efforts make a bigger difference than the huge stunt or event. This text is a good antidote to the prevailing culture of any generation but especially for millennials who haven been told they're special so many times that any disappointment becomes despair.

About the Author
James Lincoln Collier has written many books for children, including "Give Dad My Best" and "Planet out of the Past". He has also contributed more than five hundred articles to the "New York Times Magazine", "Reader s Digest", and "Boy s Life". His honors include the Kidger Prize for Teaching, the Jane Addams Peace Prize, and the Newbery Honor.

Christopher Collier is an author and historian. He attended Clark University and Columbia University, where he earned his PhD. He was the official Connecticut State Historian from 1984 to 2004 and is now professor of history emeritus at the University of Connecticut. He is the brother of James Lincoln Collier, with whom he has written a number of novels, most of which are based on historic events. His books have been nominated for several awards, including the Newbery Honor and the Pulitzer Prize.

This book is awesome!!

In my 8th grade English class I had to read My Brother Sam Is Dead as a reguired historical fiction book. I read the book in class as well as out of class on my own time. My Brother Sam Is Dead takes place during the Revolutionary War in a little town called Redding. Tim, a teenager, is telling the reader his feelings of the war and how the war affected him. I think teh author choose to tell the story through Tim because he was torn between being a Loyalist like his father or a Patriot like his older brother Sam. Tim's father doesn't think that his family shoyuld be involved in the war and Sam thinks it's his duty to fight for his country. Irony, was what made the book My Brother Sam Is Dead interesting. A good example is when Tim finds out his father had died on a British Jail Ship. This was unexpected because he was a Loyalist and he died on British Jail Ship. I expected him to die on a Patriot Jail Ship. Once you read what happens, your like I didn't expect that to happen. The same thing happens to Sam at the end of the book, but in a different way. In My Brother Sam Is Dead there were three main conflicts. The conflicts were personal, political, and character. Tim was the character withthe personal conflict. He was trying to decide whether to be a Patriot or a Loyalist. Tim knew his father had his reasons for being a Loyalist and so did his brother Sam. Tim wanted to be like his father, but also wanted to be like his brother Sam. The next big conflict was the political one. England and The Colonies were fighting over who got to run The Colonies. England thought they should get to run them because they had founded The Colonies. The people living in The Colonies thought they should get to run The Colonies because they lived there and didnt' believe in England's rule. The last conflict was between Sam and his father. This kind of conflict is called a character conflict. Sam wanted to go to war and fight an the Patriot side, while his father didn't think he should fight in the war. Sam's father was also a Loyalist so he didn't believe in anyhting the Patriots did or thought was right. In the book My Brother Sam Is Dead there were many great parts that I enjoyed. One part of the book that really got me interested was when Tim and his father were ambushed on their way to Verplex Point to trade the cattle for supplies they needed for their tavern in Redding. An other part was when Tim finds out Sam took his father's only gun, Brown Bess, when Sam's father specifically told Sam not too. If I had to pick a theme for the book it would most likely be "Everything happens for a reason." To me, it was like everything that happened to Tim changed the way he lived, acted or even thought. My Brother Sam Is Dead was full of suspense all the way through the book. I could hardly put the book down since I started reading it. I also read a historical fiction book called, One Thousand White Women. It was great too! One Thousand White Women was written in a journal form and I liked that format better than the traditional story form of My Brother Sam is Dead. I hope you enjoy both of these books as much as I did.

GREAT HISTORICAL FICTION FOR YOUNG ADULTS

This is my favorite among the Collier brothers' books. This has been a successful book for me to hand to many (usually boys) reluctant readers. Young readers can relate to Tim Meeker's conscience telling him to do "what's right" and his desire to be like his big brother Sam. Conflict over the Revolutionary War(which is just beginning at the start of the book) brings emotional confrontations to the Meeker household. Most readers can sympathize with Tim as he watches his family torn apart by the question of loyalty to the King or to the colonists. Tim just wants to be loyal to his family, and he wishes Sam would too. This novel is an easy read and is an enthralling read with its taps into the violence of this war. Readers are so involved by the end of the novel that they want to pick up another of the Collier brothers' historical fiction. And as the authors say, if they said there was two-feet of snow in January of 1778, then it really happened. This is realistic historical fiction throughout. One of the authors does the research & the other does the creative writing to complete this package. This is a great literary addition to any history class. If you like this one, I suggest also reading Bloody Country & The Winter Hero, both by the same authors.

Didn't live up to the hype

Evidently this is a frequently banned book because of the gratuitous language and violent war themes. I think it should be banned because it's not very well-written and its anti-war theme is so unsubtle it practically bludgeons the reader over the head. Repeatedly. The book is meant to convince us that war is bad and affects innocent civilians in all sorts of brutal ways. While this is true, the narrator, Timmy, has a hard time convincing us. The story is disjointed and more a series of vignettes, and between the scenes he is constantly stating that life goes on and he's forgotten what came before. It was written in 1975 so I understand the Newbery committee appreciating the anti-war bias set in historical fiction, but I always wish the selections were uniformly timeless. Alas, they are products of their time. "The Fighting Ground" by Avi explores the same theme in the same time period and it's an excellent book, much better told than this one.

Very informative and thought provoking

SOmeone recommended this to me, so I found it half price somewhere and picked it up. What a treasure! Each reading offered me so much information and gave me pause to really think. I think it is a great book, and next year plan to go through it with my kids at Christmas. Several people popped in my mind that might benefit from this book. It doesn't preach, it teaches

So eloquent

I husband suggested I read this book after he found it while living overseas on military duty in the Sinai Peninsula. While both Christians, we had fallen away from a focus on faith until recently. This book was so nice to read during this wonderful season of celebration. I felt it was so eloquently written and really captured my attention during each chapter. I am so glad I read it this year and I would have paid more for it. Thank you to this author for his wonderful gift of writing about the nativity.

Inspiring

Why the Nativity, by David Jeremiah, is an inspirational book answering several questions surrounding the nativity of Christ. David is a good theologian and a great pastor, and his book is exactly what you would expect. This is not supposed to be a scholarly work, it does not have a lot of depth historically, but David still does a good job, and it always interesting. It was enjoyable to read. I have a few minor disagreements, such as the his comment the our image of angels with wings and white robes was a product of painters in the middle ages, but Icons for centuries proceeding the middle ages depicted winged angels,and we know from scripture the ones in the empty tomb wore white robes. Still, overall, this is a good, short, inspiring book to read during the Christmas holidays.

A solid math for econ book

Some of the previous reviewers have complained that this book is too easy while others thought it was too hard. Personally, I think the authors have struck excacly the right balance between rigor and a "cookbook" approach. Just compare it to the major competing texts. Fundamental Methods by Chiang is way too chatty and a bit out of date (I haven't seen the new edition, but I understand that not much changed). Chiang will get you through undergrad in style, but it's not the best preparation for graduate school. On the other hand, Mathematics for Economists by Simon and Blume is great for advanced undergrads and beginning grad students, but I suspect it's too difficult for beginners who don't already have some solid math preparation under their belts. Hoy et. al. falls right in between these two books. It is an introductory text to be sure, but it covers a lot of topics, some not even covered in S&B. It is challenging but not impossible for beginners and will give them a broad survey of the field. I readily admit that the style is a bit dry, although it would be hard for it not to be with so many authors. Overall, I would recommend this book highly to ambitious undergrads or even underprepared grad students (like I was once). However, if you definitely need something more challenging get Simon and Blume.

Clear and Clean

This is a very useful introductory text for economics students who want to plug into the mathematics needed for more advanced economics courses. The treatment of multivariate calculus is intuitive and clear, but I wish there was less pre-calculus and more work on total differentials and differential equations. Chiang is better for those topics. The introduction to dynamics is a useful preliminary look at this deep topic

Excellent for help with economic theory ...

Very useful book for calculations for economic application: I say applications, because the examples are extremely useful for use with economic courses or theory.
I am studying at undergraduate level, and have used this book along-side set texts for 3-4 courses ... including intermediate microeconomics (so, if you have the Varian set textbook, this book is extremely helpful!!, with lots of relevant examples).
Very useful, easy to understand (straight forward).
