Excellent book for young readers regardless of gender!

Chase Against Time is a great introduction to the series. The author is a terrific storyteller who balances character with plot to craft a page-turning mystery that speaks to young readers. Chase is given a personal, moral dilemma to work through while at the same time solving the mystery. This book recalls the Henry Wiggen baseball novels by Mark Harris that I read and loved as a high school student. Kudos to Reifman!

I really LOVED this book!!! It is such an awesome mystery.It will have you on the edge of your seat,badly wanting to skip to the end to find out what happens!!! I relate to Chase a little bit because when I grow up I want to be a spy. The title is also a brilliant choice because the boy Chase is trying to find the cello in time, so it's literally a"chase against time", but Chase is also the boy's name, and he's trying to find a stolen cello in a short amount of time so it's kinda like Chase vs Time. A brilliant play on words!!! -SophiaL.

Great book.

This book has everything you need to learn the basics of C++. The book also has sections in each chapter that show you the differences between C and C++. This is helpful later if a professor or boss wants you to us the original C. Finally, the authors maintain the book and are very helpful when it comes to helping students.

Note: It is helpful to note that Object Oriented Programming is not extensively covered in the book. The book only gives a brief introduction to classes. If you are using the book and have an OOP class later, you will likely have to get a new book.

So it's like this.

I'm a student at Oregon Institute of Technology, studying Software Engineering. I have taken classes with both Todd and Randal, and this book is easily the best way to learn C++. This book starts at absolute ground zero, with a simple "Hello World!" program (which I distinctively remember having Todd walk our class though). It explains everything you need to know, and just keeps building on it as the book progresses.

If you're serious about wanting to learn C++, this book is the way to do it. No question about it.

I'm also fairly certain that if you have any kind of question about something in the book, you can email either Todd or Randal and get a friendly and helpful response back within a day or two.

I was able to test out of an intro level college course with this book.

I read this text in order to test out of an intro level computer science class back in college. I had studied C++ programming before in high school, but it had been years and I was almost starting from square one again. I read through this book only once, and did the exercises contained within on the compiler that the school issued to comp sci students.

I found it very easy to read and understand. The information was presented with clear examples, and chunked well into parts that were easily bullet-pointed for study purposes. I passed the test to skip the intro level class with flying colors, and joined the class in the second level programming class. I found I was easily able to keep up with the students in the second level class and did not feel as though I were at any disadvantage whatsoever. So it ended up being a great time and money saver in the long run as it saved me hundreds of dollars for the tuition of a 3 credit college course.

About the Author

Craig Wright's plays include Melissa Arctic (2005 Helen Hayes Award), Orange Flower Water, The Pavilion, Recent Tragic Events, Molly’s Delicious, Mistakes Were Made, and The Unseen. The first three are collected in Three Plays (Northwest­ern; 2012). His plays have been produced at theaters around the country, including Barrow Street Theatre, Woolly Mammoth, and Steppenwolf. His work as a televi­sion writer and producer includes Six Feet Under (for which he received an Emmy nomination), Lost, Brothers and Sisters, Dirty Sexy Money, and Underemployed. He is an ensemble member of A Red Orchid Theatre.

Good actor piece for all characters.

If you're looking for a play to work on, this is a great for a few reasons. First of all, all three of the main characters ( 2M, 1F) have great material. Second, it's new enough that you haven't seen it done a million times. Third, it raises all kinds of moral questions, but it doesn't seem to be pushing an agenda.

I'm also a big fan of stories that address serious or dark material without losing lightness. This is FUNNY, even when it's going heavy.

Also, even though the characters are written as 30's, I think it would work for 22-early 40's.

A Good Play... But Depressing

I read this cover-to-cover on a plane ride back home. I'm currently looking for future shows to direct for a little theatre that I am working with. I wouldn't rule this one out. It is very funny in places. However, the subject matter is a bit "blue". I thought the playwright did a good job with the characters, but not a very good job with the clarity of what is really being said. It's one of those plays you really need to read at least twice. If you are an atheist or agnostic thespian, this play may appeal to you.

Timely yet universal

What a beautifully-written and timely play. Craig Wright writes about things our country is presently struggling with - religion, faith, scams, science, gun violence, environmental factors - and yet the play also feels universal. I plan to read more of his work after this.
