Well developed characters work their way through tired plot.

Terror on Planet Ionus is the only book by Allen Adler, who's best known for co-writing the story for Forbidden Planet (1956) with Irving Block. The novel is intelligently written, but presents nothing new, even for 1959. It seems like a new arrangement of various plot elements of different science fiction movies of the era. It primarily follows a Navy commander abducted by a UFO while testing a supersonic speedboat, the Mach-1. He and a civilian woman attached to the project are taken to the aliens' planet where they're shown a monster that's gradually destroying their world, and asked to represent the aliens to get help from Earth to fight the monster, which follows them back to Earth. Several elements of this first half of the novel reminded me of the 1955 film This Island Earth. The second half of the novel reads like a novelization of a Kaiju movie as the military chases the monster around North America. Other characters are well developed as well as the protagonist, and that kept me reading in spite of the tired plot.

I read this book a long time ago and then lost it. I repurchased it because I wanted to reread about the monster Karkong. A very scary creature. However there was something about the style of writing and the simple plot that turned me off. It could have been the plot of a B grade 1950's sci fi film. It should be noted that the author was a co-writer of the movie "Forbidden Planet"

Love these books

This is an awesome series, I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good story. Though the books themselves seem to be written for a younger audience, the story doesn't suffer from lack of depth nor does it want for detail or complexity. My only complaint with this series as a whole is the ending, it feels as if it should have a continuation after the last book, maybe even another trilogy. Even so, it is definitely a must read.

Paul Bradt has a BS in Computer Science from University of Houston Clear Lake. He has worked as a contractor developing various computer program types. He has experimented with the Arduino system and believes it to be an excellent tool for developing an understanding of how electronic components and hardware interact in integrated systems, and it is useful as a teaching aid in learning the basics of computer programming. He likes to perform sophisticated troubleshooting of computer problems and has found that the online resources associated with Arduino can be a great help for novice users to get their experiments operating quickly and effectively. David Bradt has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from New Mexico State University with many years of experience at NASA and in the Petrochem Industry. He is also a model railroader and enjoys adding realistic features to his compact HO layout. This is the third book the authors have collaborated on. The first book is titled Arduino Heat Transfer Science Fair Projects and the second book is titled Arduino Force Pressure and Acceleration Science Fair Projects

Micro-controller meets scale modeling

As an electronics engineer I liked his projects. I liked seeing multiple Arduino projects. I think enough basic information is given that most people could make a go of his projects. Note I'm not a model railroad person, I wanted to see yet another application of Arduino technology. And this book fit the bill, I even learned a few railroading bits and pieces along the way.
