I love all of the editorial reviews on amazon about this book because they are right on the button. Children need to learn the difference between small problems that they can deal with themselves and big problems which need to be reported to an adult. I like that Howard B. Wigglebottom tries to use different strategies to deal with bullies. However, when those strategies fail over and over again - he knows that he must report the problem. When kids repeated tries of trying to stop bully behavior fail - I consider this a full on bully situation. This book should be part of your bully curriculum. Oh, and the author's website, The We Do Listen Foundation is chalk full of goodies like games, lesson plans, songs, coloring pages, AND the books are animated. The kids LOVE watching the animated version. I of course read this book first and use the animated version as a follow up.

A must-have for any high energy experimental physicist!

This Tome contains so much useful information on the art and science of radiation detection that I hardly can believe I got along without it. Don't let the steep price discourage you. This book is a must-have for any high energy experimental physics graduate student or even undergraduate. It fills many of the gaps between traditional course books and real-world experience and has a series of encyclopedic bibliographies to boot

A great book but with many, many, and not all corrected in the extensive, yet not definitive, errata list. Make sure you contact the editor for it. I mean, a table of content with page references that don't match, whole chunk of text missing at the very beginning of chapter 14, and then missing words (easy to spot, they left a blank! And I have not read it from cover to cover yet as this turned me off, so who knows what else got missed. And if you are a student, wait until you try to use a formula that has not been printed correctly. Great author, great text, lousy editing and printing. Maybe wait for the fourth edition?

The definitive guide to radiation detection

Quite simply, this book is indispensable for nuclear engineers, health physicists, plasma and high energy physicists, and anyone else that works with ionizing radiation detectors on a regular basis.

I have taught a lab course for junior undergraduate and beginning graduate students at a university using the 3rd edition of this book, and found its explanations comprehensive and technically sound. When students didn't understand the concepts presented in class, I found later that more often than not they hadn't read the book thoroughly or attempted the end-of-chapter problems. If I get the opportunity to teach a similar class, I look forward to using the 4th edition.

The book has also been a handy resource for my research, mostly chapter 3, which explains counting statistics in a succinct, understandable way that pure mathematics textbooks typically lack.

The 4th edition fixes a lot of the errata from the 3rd edition, but otherwise is largely unchanged. That's not a bad thing, as the 3rd edition was still excellent. There is some new and updated material as well.

I bought the 3rd edition used and later wished I hadn't, as I got a lot of use out of the book and it became damaged rather easily. I got the 4th edition new, and I expect it to be on my shelf for decades to come.

Reasonable attempt to extract principles

This book provides a refreshing change from most networking books that describe a mass of protocols, and instead attempts to extract principles that underly these protocols. These are summarized in an appendix, and are discussed throughout the book.
The downside is that one section of the book will often (of necessity) refer to principles described in another section of the book, but the only reference is to a name and number of the principle (e.g. "Backward Compatibilty Inhibits Radical Change (III.7)"). To find more detail about the principle requires searching the appendix (section III.7 for the example) that is somewhere towards the end of the book for a page reference where the principle is defined. It would be better if the inside cover listed the titles of the principles and the pages where they are defined, and if the appendix or index could list the pages where the principle is used.

A Book that needs to be on any System/Network Designer's shelf

This is one of those books that would definitely benefit anyone trying to design a protocol/system for high performance. It has a great deal of information and trade-offs that one should consider while designing a system. Chapter 2 alone is a lot of information and design methodologies that are widely deploy-able across any platform that anyone would work on. I have been working on this book for a while now and feel that this is a ready reference when I would be designing my own protocol (if luck so falls upon me!) and make all the points a check-list to be sure that what I have designed is in keeping with the principles outlined in this work.. Even though the book seems to be old in print, the information is not tied to any particular technology which makes it still relevant in this day and age. Highly recommend this book and hope it gets its due in readership.

The book has taken a different approach by explaning concepts and providing key difference which you will not find in RFC's are specifications.
The book does not talk about any protocol detail rather it provides a concepts and problems behind the protocol and is really a nice thing to read and covers from physical layer, network components, host and end-to-end issues.
I gave this 5 star - useful references , tips and quotes to remember the principles are really good. Thank God! not much of mathematics while explaining some concepts.

Very few books are written about Tantric Shaivism that both manage to convey the original 11th century wisdom in a 21st century context. This book does exactly that in a way that is both deep and understandable by someone who is not a scholar.

Amazing commentary

This is an amazing commentary on an ancient Tantric text. It is a rare treasure to encounter a present-day master who is supremely knowledgeable about ancient Tantric practices, a knowledge confirmed both through the study of scripture and through four decades of disciplined inner practice. Swami Khecaranatha is also extremely and refreshingly articulate, making this work accessible, understandable, and relevant in many practical ways to contemporary spiritual students. A fascinating book and essential reading for anyone interested in the study of Kashmir Shaivism. Highly recommended.

He shows how it's possible to unfold a spiritual life and recognize the highest truths - even while living in the midst of the pressures of the 21st century.
