Scott A. Wilson is a senior lecturer in the Department of Performing and Screen Arts at Unitec Institute of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand. He has published on topics as diverse as abjection and reality television, road safety advertising, and the role of monster movies in post-9/11 cinema. He lives in Auckland.

People trying to prove how brilliant they are

Reading through this collection of essays, I was wondering "Who is this written for?" This is a collection of scholarly articles about various styles of extreme music. By scholarly, I mean mainly concerned with making tenuous connections to other branches of philosophy and barely mentioning the alleged subject matter. These seem to be the kind of writings that ten people produce only for each other to read. Now that is underground!
This book would probably be of interest to those with little knowledge of extreme music but who love footnotes and using three paragraphs to make a simple point. If you are looking for an in depth and critical look at the music of GG Allin, for instance (like I was), you will be sorely disappointed. 2 stars, only for academics looking for a sheen of danger on their usual term papers.
